to help us maintain a bully free school.

Our school theme is "Be a Buddy, not a Bully!" We are working hard to encourage "Buddy" behavior as a way to reduce bullying. We have a "Buddy Box" by the front office where the students can report students who are being a buddy to them. "Buddies" show respect to others, "Buddies" are kind and helpful, and "Buddies" are bully blockers by standing up for their friends. Students can also report if they need help with a bullying situation. Every student who is reported as a buddy receives a horseshoe or small treat. Every student who needs help with a bullying situation talks to our counselor for help in resolving the situation. We also use "Caught ya's" to watch for kids at recess and in the halls who are being a "Buddy." Starting in January, these students are announced over the intercom on Monday's and come to the office for a small reward. We are having a lot of success in increasing the good behavior in our school. Our Bully reports have been steadily decreasing while we have four times as many Buddy reports and they are steadily increasing. In January, we had 169 Buddy reports! We love to hear about all the good behavior at Sunset!
