Sunset Families,
Welcome to Sunset Elementary! Our school is staffed with highly qualified, caring teachers who are excited to work with you as parents to ensure your child is successful this year. Our school is a Title One school, which means that we receive additional federal funding which is determined by the percentage of students who qualify for freed and reduced lunch. This funding is designed to:
• Help students to achieve academic success in Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Science.
• Increase student performance in high poverty schools
• Build teacher capacity through high quality professional development
• Enhance parent’s abilities to help their child succeed through parent engagement activities
The Community Council serves as the parent advisory council when developing our school improvement plan, parent involvement policy, and student/parent compact. All parents are invited to give input and are welcome to attend regularly scheduled meetings posted on our website.
As a Title One School we offer the following services to support your child’s learning:
• Preschool for those who qualify
• Free and reduced breakfast and lunch
• Skill based reading interventions for all students
• All day kindergarten
• Access to technology
• Computer assisted remediation and acceleration of curriculum
• Small class sizes
• Additional paraprofessional support
Newsletters will be emailed to you throughout the school year to keep you informed about event at our school. You can also check our website and Facebook page. Information about your child’s academic testing and growth will be shared with you throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher with questions or concerns.
During SEPs ion September 7-8, you will receive information about your child’s academic testing, our school-parent compact, and parent engagement policy. You will also be able to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss strengths, questions and concerns.
