As far back as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher, but it wasn't until after a year of college, trying to become a secretary that a professor asked me if I'd thought of going into teaching. Since then, I earned my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education in 1978 from Weber State College.
This is my 18th year of teaching in public schools. Before that I taught pre-school in the Head Start Program for three years and drove a school bus! In 1999 I returned to the public schools teaching Kindergarten in Provo, Utah. The next six years I spent teaching the Severe Special Ed. Kindergarten class in Orem, Utah. We moved to St. George 11 years ago where I taught K-5 in Severe Special Ed classroom at Washington Elementary for seven years. My first year at Sunset I taught the K-5 Severe Special Ed Classand the last three years I've enjoyed being a reading interventionist and a Mild/Moderate Special Ed Teacher, going full time this year.
I enjoy learning and gaining new teaching skills. I have received my Special Ed. endorsement, ESL endorsement, Math and Reading endorsement and this Spring my STEM endorsement. I received my Master's Degree in 2012 from Leslie University in Integrating the Arts in the Curriculum. I enjoy playing the piano and organ, and singing in the Southern Utah Heritage Choir. I think it is so important for children to experience the Arts in their education and to develop their talents. It has been wonderful to work with this dedicated staff at Sunset Elementary.
